These fountains were set up along the Royal Mile in the 18th century for drinking water. They finally figured out that the lower loch was not suitable for drinking water, and was causing illness, so they pumped clean water into the city through these fountains.
Hi, I am currently in Newcastle, England for the next year to get my master's in British history. I am very excited about my time here. I focus specifically on Early Modern British history with an emphasis on women and gender. I am hoping to learn more about medieval England while here, and I'm looking forward to lots of travel!!! I encourage any and all visitors - I would love to share my time here with others. Newcastle is a really pretty and interesting place, and there's lots to do all around me!
